Our Dark Peak Weekender & Loaded Hill Climb

On the penultimate weekend of April 2016, we set up a Basecamp below Stanage Edge in the Peak District National Park to host our first Weekender event for travelling cyclists…

…Over two busy but slow-paced days we rode beautiful quiet roads and tracks on our social rides, socialised over great food and drink (thanks to Tom Perkins from The Nomadic Kitchen, the Sunshine Pizza Oven, Colemans Deli, Break Fluid Coffee Co, and our own Route Beer©), and listened to interesting talks from Mike Howarth, Field Cycles, Josh Cunningham, Boneshaker Magazine, Alpamayo Designs, and Donhou Bicycles.

Then, on the Sunday morning, we drew the weekend to an even slower-paced close with the inaugural closed-road Pannier Loaded Hill Climb, from the campsite up to Stanage Edge. In the touring spirit, finishing times were not quite as important as riding up a hill on a loaded touring bike for fun and so will not be published BUT, fear not, times have been official noted and the records begun. We are pleased to say that there is plenty more scope for Loaded Hill Climbing after what we believe was the first ever event; we technically had categories for various setups – traditional panniers vs. rackless bikepacking bags, various bikes, as well as options for cycle touring-related challenges on the way up. We’ll get to work for the next event in the Loaded Hill Climb Series…

Sound like the ideal weekend away? Make sure you are on the list to hear about future Pannier Weekender cycling events by signing up to our mailing list in the website footer.

Our Route Beer©

We introduced the first batch of our Pale Ale for travelling cyclists this weekend, brewed in conjunction with High Peak Brew Co. At 3.6%, it is a light ale with a bit of a fizz – refreshing after a day’s cycle touring, and ideal for toasting the road ahead. For more info, do send us an email – info(at)pannier.cc

Thanks to everyone who joined us and worked with us to make this first Weekender happen. See you at the next Pannier Weekender
